Should anyone watch “The Chosen”?

Some people love it! They say “The Chosen” has changed their lives. Others criticize it, call it heretical and blasphemous! Which is it? Is “The Chosen” a faith-building, uplifting, inspirational work of art or is it an unhelpful reimagining of the gospel story?

Calvary University’s Dr. Tim Hange invited Prof. Shaun LePage, Dr. Josh Paxton and Dr. Mike Dodds to explore the value of the popular but controversial television series “The Chosen” and whether it is worth watching. Calvary Introduces Pathway to Bachelor of Science in Nursing

Calvary Introduces Pathway to Bachelor of Science in Nursing

Calvary University is excited to announce a new academic pathway designed to empower students pursuing both ministry and healthcare careers. In collaboration with the University of Central Missouri (UCM), Calvary introduces a pathway from an Associate of Arts to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. This unique partnership allows students to earn both an Associate of Arts in Ministry Studies from Calvary and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from UCM, providing a comprehensive foundation for their future careers.

The program is tailored for individuals passionate about serving their communities through both spiritual and healthcare professions. Students begin their journey at Calvary University, where they complete an Associate of Arts in Ministry Studies. This curriculum integrates a foundational Bible-based education at Calvary with essential pre-nursing coursework taken at UCM as open electives. The comprehensive Associate degree ensures that students are well-prepared academically and spiritually for the challenges of a ministering in a nursing career.

Along with courses in Bible Study/Hermeneutics, Old and New Testament Surveys, and Evangelism & Spiritual Life, students engage in practical ministry courses such as Intro to Biblical Counseling, Developing a Biblical Worldview, and Teaching the Bible, fostering a strong foundation in Christian ministry alongside their academic pursuits.

Upon successful completion of the Associate degree, students seamlessly transfer their credits to the University of Central Missouri to enroll in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. This streamlined transfer process allows students to build on their foundational studies at Calvary while advancing their education in an excellent nursing program. The partnership ensures that students benefit from a Christ-centered community at Calvary and receive high-quality nursing education at UCM, ultimately earning two degrees that open diverse career opportunities.

Calvary University’s new pathway program not only equips students with the knowledge and skills needed for a successful nursing career but also nurtures their spiritual growth and commitment to serving others. Prospective students interested in blending ministry with nursing are encouraged to explore this innovative opportunity and embark on a transformative educational journey.

Does the dialogue in “The Chosen” add to Scripture?

Does the dialogue in “The Chosen” add to Scripture?

The popular television series “The Chosen” has presented Christians with a dilemma: Is it wrong or confusing to speculate about what Jesus may have looked like? Is a visual depiction of Jesus the same thing as creating idols? Or, is it wrong to imagine what conversations—outside the text of the Bible—Jesus may have had with His disciples? Is it adding to Scripture?

Calvary University’s Dr. Tim Hange led the Calvary Conversations team—Dr. Joshua Paxton, Dr. Mike Dodds and Shaun LePage—in a conversation exploring these questions.

DESE Approves Master’s Degree for Principal Certification

DESE Approves Master’s Degree for Principal Certification

The Education Department at Calvary University seeks to prepare students to serve God in multiple settings. For the last 14 years, Calvary’s undergraduate Education majors have been able to obtain Missouri State Teaching Certification. Consequently, over the years, undergraduate Education majors have graduated and gone on to serve God in Christian schools, public schools, charter schools, rural schools, suburban schools, urban schools, and international schools.

Additionally, Calvary’s graduate Education majors have graduated with a Master of Science in Education with a focus on Educational Administration and Leadership, and they continue to serve God in various Christian educational settings. While they received a quality education, they were not state certified as principals.

Are you interested in serving God as a public school principal?

This month the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) granted approval of our Master of Science in Education (Educational Administration and Leadership) curriculum. Consequently, a Calvary University graduate Education major can now become state-certified to serve God as a principal in a Missouri public school.

Would Jesus wash everyone’s feet because “He Gets Us”?

Would Jesus wash everyone’s feet because “He Gets Us”?

In the recent Super Bowl ads entitled “He Gets Us!” we’re told that “Jesus didn’t teach hate. He washed feet.” Certainly He didn’t teach hate. But did He really wash feet? Did He wash everyone’s feet? Is the symbolism of foot-washing appropriate for thinking about what Jesus wants to do in our lives today? Does this imagery help or hinder engaging a post-Christian culture with the Gospel today?

Join the “Calvary Conversations” team—Drs. Mike Dodds, Tim Hange, Joshua Paxton and Shaun LePage—as they explore these questions and others raised by the “He Gets Us” campaign, as well as some practical ideas for how to engage a post-Christian culture with the gospel message.

Is “He gets us!” an effective way to engage our culture?

The recent Super Bowl ads proclaimed, “He gets us!” What does it mean that Jesus “gets us”? Is that true? Is that the right message? The gospel message? Is it too short? Is it a distortion of the gospel? Is this an appropriate method for sparking conversation about Jesus?

Calvary University’s “Calvary Conversations” team discussed and debated the value and shortcomings of the “He Gets Us” ad campaign as well as some ways Christians can engage a post-Christian culture with the gospel message.
