Calvary University is proud to announce the hiring of Matt Sanders to be the next Men’s Basketball Coach at Calvary Bible College. Sanders, who has a great deal of experience, was seen to be a coach on the rise for the Warriors. At Truett-McConnell College he guided his teams to accomplish many firsts in the school’s four-year history – first consecutive conference wins, most conference wins, first conference tournament win, and multiple conference tournament wins.
His squads dominated defensively. He coached the first team at Truett to ever receive a national ranking in defense and three-point defensive field goal percentage. From 2008-2011 Sanders spent time as an assistant coach for both the men and the women at Lee University. He was the Head Junior Varsity Men’s Basketball Coach. His highlights at Lee include being an assistant coach on multiple championship teams, making three trips to the NAIA national tournament and also making a final four in the Women’s NAIA national tournament.
While he was on staff as the Head Men’s Coach at Heirway Christian Academy from 2001-2007, he took Heirway to two state titles, one state runner-up finish, and one state final four finish.
He is an accomplished instructor with Shot Doctor International and travels across the country teaching proper shooting technique.
Jeanette Regier, CU athletic director, revealed three key characteristics she was looking for in the next Warrior coach: character, teaching ability, and the desire to use basketball to impact the Kingdom of God. “Matt Sanders gets high marks in each of those categories,” Regier said. “He has coached at a high level, he desires to use basketball to disciple young men for Jesus Christ, and he has been a successful recruiter and mentor. We are excited about the future of Calvary Basketball!
