Weekly Portraits of Calvary Life
On November 9, the Calvary Masterworks Chorus presented selected hymns arranged by Christopher Norton and John Rutter’s Requiem to a capacity crowd. The performance took place at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Lee’s Summit so that alumna Bethany Franklin could accompany the group on the pipe organ. The chorus was comprised of Calvary students, staff, alumni, and local singers and was conducted by Jeremy Schell. Students Brittany Hill, Charis Schneeberger, Marilla Flynn, and Abigail Dutoit were soloists. The Requiem was also accompanied by a small instrumental ensemble including student Benjamin Aeschliman on the flute.

The 2017 Calvary Masterworks Chorus Presents Felix Mendelssohn’s “Elijah”
The Calvary Masterworks Chorus invites you to enjoy an evening of classical music as they present Felix Mendelssohn’s “Elijah.” “Elijah” is an epic retelling of the Old Testament story of the prophet Elijah. Alongside Handel’s “Messiah,” this piece is considered one of the greatest oratorios ever written with music that conveys sheer power and emotion. Mendelssohn was determined that the drama of the story should be of central importance, and dramatic it certainly is! A story of a curse that brings the scourge of drought, followed by despair, wickedness, cruelty, relief, tenderness, and mercy. The turmoil is finally resolved in an impassioned chorus of praise to the “Lord, our Creator.”
Please join us on Friday, November 10, 2017, at 7:30 p.m. at Blue River Bible Church, 15608 Fairchild Dr., Kansas City, MO 64147 to hear this wonderful Masterwork. Ticket costs – $10.00 Adults, $7.00 for Seniors 65+/Students, Children 4 and under are Free. Tickets are available at Calvary University switchboard or you can fill out your registration at the bottom of this page.

A word from Jeremy Schell, our Director:
The Music Department at Calvary University invites you to be a part of this year’s Masterworks Chorus as we present Mendelssohn’s Elijah! This incredible choral work tells the story of Elijah from Scripture and is considered one of the “must do” choral pieces for any singer.
Our first rehearsal is Monday, August 28 at 7:00 pm at Calvary University, in Liberty Chapel. We will rehearse every Monday following (except Labor Day) until our performance on Friday, November 10 at 7:30 pm.
The cost to join the choir is $25 per person and $50 for a family. You may sign-up at our first rehearsal, or by clicking HERE.
