Annual Spring Break Chorale Tour Slated for March 19-27
The Calvary University Chorale will be traveling over Spring Break in March for their annual Chorale Tour. They will leave Calvary on Monday, March 18 and return on Wednesday, March 27, 2019. The Chorale consists of 20 members under the direction of Jeremy Schell on tour. Dr. Haekyung An also directs Chorale classes at CU to prepare the students for tour. This year they will travel west to Colorado to perform in a variety of venues, including Churches, Christian schools and a concert in the park. Along with sharing what Calvary has to offer to upcoming students, our purpose of this year’s tour, is to inform those in the local area about Calvary University’s Innovation Center in Fort Morgan, Colorado. The Chorale will be singing at the Bandstand in the Park in Fort Morgan for the community to come and hear the wonderful music and testimonies and to get a taste of what the Innovation Center has to offer. We are grateful for all the Churches and families that are willing to host our students each year for their tour and look forward to hearing how God moves in the lives of our students and those they minister to along the way.
See the tour schedule below and if you live or are visiting the area stop in and hear the Chorale perform.

Weekly Portraits of Calvary Life
On Friday, December 7, the Calvary Music Department presented “An Old Time Family Christmas” concert. Faculty members, Dr. Haekyung An and Un Chong Christopher, started the program by singing “He Shall Feed His Flock” and “Come Unto Him” from Handel’s Messiah. Kristin Thurlby played her oboe as a guest artist, and several students played instrumental pieces as well. A few students performed solos, and lux voces, the new traveling music team, was also part of the program. The Chorale sang Candle Light Carol, Gesu Bambino, and Joy to the World. The Calvary Chamber Singers performed three songs on their own and then joined the Chorale and audience to close the concert with Christmas carols. The performance took place at Blue River Bible Church and was enjoyed by a large crowd.

John Rutter’s “Requiem”
The 2018 Calvary Masterworks Chorus invites you to enjoy an evening of classical & hymn music as they present John Rutter’s “Requiem.”
Our Masterworks Concert will open with a series of beloved hymns by Charles Wesley, John Newton, and Isaac Watts that have been rethought by British Composer and jazz pianist, Christopher Norton. These beautiful, creative, and moving arrangements accompanied by a pipe organ give a new sense of beauty to the 18th-century texts. John Rutter’s “Requiem” was completed in 1985 and is a choral masterpiece. His setting of this work is beautiful, with melodies that illustrate the depth of the text. The text is a mixture of Latin and English and includes a movement that features his famous setting of Psalm 23.
- Please join us on Friday, November 9, 2018, at 7:30 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 416 S.E. Grand Ave., Lee’s Summit, MO 64063 to hear this wonderful Masterwork.
- Tickets – $10.00 Adults, $7.00 for Seniors (65+) and Students, Children 4 and under are free. Tickets may be purchased online with the form below or at the Calvary University switchboard.

Weekly Portraits of Calvary Life
Last Thursday almost 200 people joined us for the annual President’s Dinner. The theme for the evening was “Celebrating God’s Blessing!” After dinner the program began with two songs by the Chorale.
The Calvary Chorale sang Kum Ba Yah.
Then we presented Hand in Hand Awards to Bill and Debi Keeney and Graham Union Church for their tremendous support of Calvary.

Dr. Cone announced two recent, huge blessings. First, we have 401 students enrolled in classes right now! Second, Calvary has been approved to offer a PhD in Bible and Theology launching in January 2019. Following Dr. Cone we heard testimonies from three students as well as reports about God’s blessings in the Athletic Department, Colorado Innovation Center, and Kansas City campus buildings.
Student Tori Stahr gave a testimony.
The evening concluded with the first performance of Calvary’s new music group, lux voces. We are thankful for each person who came to celebrate with us and for the students who served in various capacities throughout the event.
