Calvary University introduces their new traveling music group lux voces. The group consists of Calvary students and alumni.
This new group is made up of young, talented musicians, praising God through their music using vocals, guitars, drums and piano in their performances. Our goal is to serve Christian schools and churches by sharing the good news of Jesus Christ through music and testimonies.
The group will be available for Sunday morning church services and Christian school chapels as a way to introduce or familiarize Calvary University to families around the metro area with an interest in a local university.
The group debuted at the President’s Dinner in September to a great response. Would you like to have lux voces visit your church or school? They are now scheduling for the 2018-2019 season. The group has their own equipment, sound technician, and sponsors for each performance.

Weekly Portraits of Calvary Life
On September 6, representatives from more than thirty churches and ministries gathered in Liberty Chapel for the Christian Ministry Fair. New students were introduced to many local churches. This is extremely helpful as they are just starting to search for a body with whom to worship and fellowship. Since Calvary requires eight semesters of Christian Ministry for a four-year degree, the fair was also a great time to check out all of the opportunities for serving the Lord through a church or ministry organization. Students were encouraged to visit with at least ten different representatives during the fair.

Weekly Portraits of Calvary Life
A large portion of this year’s Registration Day was rainy and dreary here in Kansas City. However, we did not let that dampen our excitement over welcoming new students to Calvary!
A sizable group of men and women went through the check-in process on Thursday, and some of them also moved into the dorm. Thankfully the afternoon brought clearer skies for transporting student belongings.
We are anticipating a terrific school year, and we are certainly thankful for each student whom the Lord has brought to Calvary.
Please join us in praying especially for these new students and their families as they adjust to a new normal.

There were also non-academic awards for things like Christian character and Christian ministry.

This year we created a new award called “Who’s Who at Calvary University,” and eleven undergraduates and seven graduate level students were the first to receive it.
Two of the Who’s Who at Calvary University Award Recipients, Koku (l) and Akpene (middle) Akakpo, with Dr. Bitner
Graduates who excelled with high grade point averages were presented with their cords to wear with their regalia.
Alumni Induction Luncheon
Following Awards Chapel, we invited the graduates to attend the Alumni Induction Luncheon. We enjoyed a delicious taco bar from Silber Spoons Catering!

Then I presented Alumni Association certificates to each graduate in attendance. I also took some time to recognize the spouses of the graduates for what they have done to “put honey through.” As I welcomed the graduates to the alumni family, I informed them of the benefits and responsibilities that come with that distinction. Dr. Hessel shared a brief word from the Development Department, and Jeanette Regier showed the new alumni what kind of family they are joining by sharing specific examples of Calvary alumni.

Weekly Portraits of Calvary Life
Christian ministry is a vital part of life at Calvary. Students are required to find and faithfully attend a local church. After choosing a church home, students must spend their remaining semesters involved in evangelism, ministry at a local church or organization, and service which relates to their academic major. Christian ministry allows students to apply what they are learning in the classroom and prepares them for future service.
In order to assist our students in the search for a church and/or a place to serve, Calvary hosts a Christian Ministry Fair each fall. Yesterday we had more than twenty churches and more than ten organizations represented on campus. Students, especially new ones, had the opportunity to meet and gather information from friendly pastors and representatives. It is our desire that this fair established some connections that will lead to growth and ministry for God’s glory.
